Purchase an Introductory Flight Gift Certificate

You can purchase and then print out an introductory flight gift certificate. If you do not have a printer just tell me in the notes to seller when you purchase to email your gift certificate. If you have any trouble printing after your purchase then email me at d.kalthof@sbcglobal.net and I can email your gift certificate to you.

An introductory flight or Intro Flight allows an individual to experience flight in a 4-seat training aircraft. They handle the flight controls under the instruction of a CFI (certified flight instructor) for 90% of the flight. They will be able to perform straight flight, turns, climbs, and descents. If you would like an introductory flight for yourself it can be paid for on the day of the flight.

The lesson includes: One hour of ground instruction and 45 minutes of flight instruction. The hour of ground instruction takes place in the plane and covers understanding the flight instruments and the use flight controls. We can fly out to the coast, or over the east bay, depending of the weather that day.

It is also possible to fly longer: to land at another airport and switch pilot's if two people come, or to fly over downtown San Francisco, or both. Email or call me for more details.

I have been teaching for about 20 years - see the instructor information tab for more information about me.

There are several options for the introductory flight:

  • The Basic 4 seat trainer is economical and safe, but may not have modern avionics like a GPS navigation system. Cost for lesson in Basic 4-seat C172n or Piper Warrior: $279
  • The more advanced 4 seat trainers all have GPS navigation systems, most have autopilots, and multi-function displays. They are also newer aircraft. A Lesson in an Advanced 4-seat C172s or Piper Archer: $309
  • The G1000 Cessna 172s will expose you to a glass panel aircraft with a primary flight display and multifunction display. $329
  • The introductory flight for two will allow you to bring a friend along so they can share the magic of flight in a 4 seat Cessna or Piper. Includes instructional materials. $399

"Special offer for this month" - purchase any of the 4 lessons above and get a free upgrade from 45 minutes to 1 hour of flight time!

  • The 3-lesson introductory flight package includes 3 seperate lessons each with one hour of and one hour of flight instruction in a basic 4-seat airplane for $749. Due to TSA regulations you must be a US citizen, or obtain TSA approval before your 2nd lesson. After purchase please email me so I can send a gift certificate to you.

You can pay for the gift certificate with your credit card or PayPal account. At your purchase confirmation page (the one that says thanks for your order) you will be able to click on a blue link that says "Return to Bay Area Flying Lessons" to print your gift certificate.

Be sure you print the PayPal receipt page, or write down your transaction ID or receipt number before you come back from PayPal to my site as you will need to enter it on the gift certificate form before you print it out.

The charge will appear on your credit card as PAYPAL*BAYAREA FLY

If you do have any questions at all about the introductory flight, I would be happy to talk to you before you buy. Also I can custom tailor a gift certificate in other planes like a Cirrus or other glass cockpit aircraft if desired. Just call me at 510-299-3940.

The recipient should live near the San Francisco Bay Area as the flight will only be given from the Palo Alto, or San Carlos airports.

The gift certificate is not redeemable for cash. It is only redeemable for an introductory flight.

The certificates maintain their dollar value you pay for 5 years from the purchase date.

Flights will be given by Darryl Kalthof - 7 days a week as available, or another senior instructor as required to accommodate the recipients schedule.
